Spread the Love

Tonight a special couple is Giving Up their Valentine's date night to Give to the students at Centre Salisa. Nate and Rachel Greenfield have a special connection to the Congo. Their two youngest daughters were born there and joined their family last year.

Since Valentine's Day is all about celebrating the people you love, we LOVE that the Greenfields have chosen to spread their love beyond those closest to them. With their Giving Up To Give donation, children in the Congo will be invested in and empowered. Now that is LOVE!

More Rice and Beans

Tonight the Blank family has graciously joined Giving Up To Give by eating rice and beans for dinner. We love to see families doing this together, because we don't just see rice and beans,we see real change happening in the lives of the students at Centre Salisa in the Congo.

When asked, this is how the Blanks talked about their Giving Up To Give gift:

"Why are we doing this? We are always looking for ways to raise awareness in our home about the plight of others and how blessed we are in America. We teach our children that we join Christ in His sufferings and that extends to joining in the sufferings of those he loves- everyone."

Will you be the next family to join us in coming alongside children in the Congo?

"Offer it up"

Today Alena is Giving Up To Give her money earned from babysitting. For those of you who are stay-at-home moms earning extra money from babysitting, you know this is truly a sacrfice! In Alena's Giving Up To Give gift, we hear again what this project is inspiring to do: to encourage us not to give out of our excess (or not give because of our lack of excess), but to Give Up what we have, however small or large it may be.

We love Alena's words..."I was really inspired by this Giving Up to Give because we often get caught up in a mentality that I'll give more when I have extra, but the reality is, we do have so much excess even when we feel squeezed. I want my family to see that we can make sacrifices to benefit others. My mom often told us to "offer it up" when we felt as if we were suffering, and this to me is a way to tangibly "offer it up." So, to start I am giving the money I earn from one day of child care. Hopefully we can come up with some family projects soon!"

So what can you "offer up" for Giving Up To Give? Remember, it is not about excess, but about ordinary, everyday things we already have that we can Give Up To Give for the children in the Congo.

"Not much of a sacrifice"

Another family is eating rice and beans for dinner tonight... a big thank you to the Borlands for Giving Up a regular dinner so they can Give towards the education of children in Congo.

Here is what Carolyn had to say about their decision to join Giving Up To Give.

"God has blessed us with so much. Even though we have retired and don't make as much as we did when we were both working, I know we can give up meals for a day and eat rice and beans. If our donation helps make someone's life better it is really not much of a sacrifice."

This embodies what Giving Up To Give is all about. It is not about having a lot, or giving out of our excess. It is about finding ways in our everyday life where we can Give Up something as simple as a regular dinner--and discovering that our small act of Giving Up isn't really much of a sacrifice because it improves the life of someone else.
